Values

Our values inform and create a picture of a citizen of heaven that we pursue as a church

The things that we value, what we love, care about, think about and spend our time doing, are the things that shape and define us. At Citizens Church, our values reflect the picture of a Christian that we see in Scripture. We teach, practice and pursue these values together as a church.

Life in Christ

Life in Christ

Life from and with Jesus

The good news of the gospel is that Jesus is Lord (Col 1:18). As Lord he is restoring all things through His gracious rule because of His perfect life, sacrificial death and victorious resurrection (1 Cor 15:20-28). At Citizens Church, that means the gospel not only saves us, but changes us by empowering us to live under the gracious rule of Jesus, our king. All of life is then lived IN CHRIST (Col 3:3). In Christ, we seek grace for sin. In Christ, we receive a new identity. In Christ, we are formed into His image. In Christ, we exist together as a united people with a shared love. All of who we are and what we do is defined by life in Him.

Word of God

Word of God

Knowing the true story of who God is and who we are

The bible is the first and final authority in the life of Citizens of heaven. At Citizens Church, we want to submit our lives to God by looking to the Bible to hear who God is (his character and nature), who we are (our value and our need) and to learn the true story of the world in contrast to the false stories told around us. (Matthew 7:24-27, James 1:22).

People of Presence

People of Presence

The active pursuit of God and others

You can sum up the story of the Bible in three words: God with us. We were made for God’s presence and Jesus promised He would provide the very presence we long for (Matthew 28:20, John 14:15-17, Romans 8:9-11). At Citizens Church, being a people of presence means communing with God individually through spiritual practices as well as corporately and in community within our gatherings and groups. This is an active, not passive, part of the life of Citizens Church. We actively behold God and intentionally move toward one another.

Whole Person Discipleship

Whole Person Discipleship

All of life fully formed by love for Jesus

Every person is a combination of mind and heart, body and soul, thoughts and emotions, beliefs and desires, past and present. Following Jesus is not simply about learning the right things, but every part of us being conformed into His image (Romans 12:1-2, Col 1:28). At Citizens, that means our mind and heart, body and soul, thoughts and emotions, beliefs and desires, past and present, and all of our being is transformed when Jesus is the primary love or our lives. The goal of discipleship does not end once we have the right answers, but when we have become whole people.

Living on Mission

Living on Mission

Joining God in restoring all of creation

Every follower of Jesus is called to live lives on mission for His kingdom (Matthew 6:10, 28:16-20). God has commissioned us as co-laborers to use our words, gifts, stories and resources to be a light and push back the darkness of this world (Matthew 5:14-16). At Citizens Church, that is visible in the way we share our faith, love our neighbors, help the vulnerable, contend for justice and proclaim the gospel around us and around the world.

Formational Spaces

We see our values being practiced corporately and personally in three key areas of formation: Gatherings, Classes and Communities. Our values, practiced in and through these formational areas, help form you into a citizen of heaven.

Mission

Our mission is to enjoy God, love people and make disciples. We believe this sums up the Great Commandment and Great Commission.

Beliefs

We believe in the central doctrines of the Christian faith, which are outlined in our statement of faith. The gospel, the story of God redeeming and reconciling the world back to Himself through the person and work of Jesus Christ, is at the center of everything we believe and do.
